Launching in Autumn 2025, the stunning design is starting to come to life. Think of this Saltbox event venue preview as an amuse bouche of what’s to come. Bon Appétit!

Saltbox Renders and Concept

Three of the biggest names in commercial and community development and design have created Saltbox, and renders and concept designs reveal something quite spectacular. TOGA Group built the 560 square-metre, state-of-the-art venue, which was designed by SJB as part of the inspirational Wunderlich Lane development. Additionally, interior designers Bates Smart are bringing Saltbox’s hospitable charm and vibrant energy to life, with a commitment to sustainability. The trio have worked in closed collaboration with the Saltbox leadership team to achieve their vision of creating Sydney’s best new event space. We think you’ll agree, they’ve hit the mark.

Saltbox Moodboard Inspiration

The design is inspired by its locale at the fringe of Surry Hills and Redfern, where Saltbox captures the urban energy of the neighbourhood and its people. A soft, neutral aesthetic and natural finishes and textures represents the overall mood of Saltbox’s design. Understated yet elegant, the warm backdrop is enhanced by an abundance of natural light that lets the stunning architecture shine. It is a spectacular yet simple canvas for the vibrant culinary adventures of Cook & Waiter, the leading Sydney caterer that has created Saltbox as its first dedicated event space. Stunningly unassuming, this mise en scene is the perfect champion of all-things culinary: from abundantly grand banquet tables, to stunning crockery, glassware, custom-designed platters and fine linen napery. It is the kind of backdrop that teases out the individuality and exclusivity of every carefully-curated, breathtaking event.

“Saltbox capitalises on the vibrant spirit of Wunderlich Lane. We’ve crafted a space that blends flexibility with sophistication. When you are inside you truly feel the excitement of the Surry Hills and Redfern fringe.” – Brenton Smith, Interior Design Director, Bates Smart

Saltbox Unique Features

Luxe Lobby

A Saltbox Wunderlich Lane preview must start from the ground up. A luxe, mirrored lobby and reception area on the ground floor redefines the luxury event spaces Sydney has to offer. Located in the heart of the buzzing Wunderlich Lane, guests enter from the busy lifestyle precinct and are immediately swept away into a world of bespoke event indulgence.

Exposed Timber

If we look further behind the scenes Saltbox celebrates an architecturally impressive exposed timber frame, constructed from lightweight, carbon neutral, cross-laminated timber (CLT). It is a stand-out design feature not just for its appearance, but also for sustainability as it represents bestpractice green design. The CLT anchors the rest of the interior palette, which is made up of warm and authentic materials – raw surfaces, textured fabric, lush plants and eco-friendly cork flooring that is rich in style, durable and soft under foot, with thermal and acoustic benefits.

Multiple Versatile Spaces

As one would expect from a collection of best new event spaces Sydney offers, Saltbox comprises multiple private spaces to host functions of various sizes and styles.

  • The Box is the main spacious and pillarless event space, which cements Saltbox’s position as the premier corporate event venue Sydney prides itself on. The size and scale of this space makes it perfect for large-scale corporate events, gala dinners and product launches.
  • Saltbox also boasts two smaller rooms. Suites One and Two are convenient breakout spaces, or more intimate meeting rooms, with the versatility to open into one larger space for arrival registrations, pre-drinks, networking, and conference catering.
  • Another excellent space that makes this quite a unique event venue Wunderlich Lane calls its own, is a striking 119 square-metre terrace that can host arrivals, morning tea, and alfresco events. From the terrace, guests can soak up the energy and atmosphere of the busy precinct below.

Sculpted Ceiling

Saltbox taps a hot design trend with a magnificent sculpted ceiling in the main event space, making it one of the most modern event spaces Sydney has. The dramatic ceiling with soft light accents adds depth, character and warmth. It is a stylish and contemporary feature, that adds a wow factor to every event.
